Sheriff T. Michael O’Connor stops his vehicle while on patrol to read a text message with election updates Tuesday night near Telferner. O’Connor said that he would rather be out patrolling and helping his deputies than at a party waiting to hear about his future. “It’s up to God and the voters of Victoria County. All the work is done,” he said. The sheriff also refused to celebrate before all of the votes were counted even though the numbers leaned heavily in his favor and even after winning, was determined to keep his victory low-key. “I’ve always learned to be humble,” he said. “In victory and defeat.” ANGELI WRIGHT/AWRIGHT@VICAD.COM
